If you are anything like me your most probably getting pretty impatient about hypixel.net being down these past few days…. The status updates on hypixel.net and also https://status.hypixel.net/ show us the latest developments but what does this all mean? i wanna build ;(
For the most part we are told the server is in maintainance mode because of something called a DDOS attack which you may have heard of or not, what is a DDOS attack?
DDOS —> “distributed denial of service” is simply when there is too much load on a server or PC which means it can not function anymore as it should. Basically the hardware CPU, RAM or in this case the network to the server is overloaded by too much traffic to the hypixel server.
This can happen in case there are too many players try to join a server at the same time or in cases also by malicious or “salty” people that want to disrupt services for all.
There are many services offered online you can even hire some miscriants to carry out these DDOS attacks so in this case such as Hypixel the way to fix the issue is to put some kind of protection in front of the hypixel server to protect it from these attacks.
We hope that these fixes get put in place fast because we are impatient but also we should keep in mind that this is an attack on the community as well so we should show our support because Hypixel has been an amazing platform we all use and love daily.
When will it be back up and running? We hope soon and we will keep our eyes peeled on the status pages about the server status and when it will be available again.
